Padua Academy Girls, Salesianum Boys Win Division 1 Team Titles By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor The Padua streak of girls cross country dominance in Delaware remained very much alive Saturday as the DIAA state championships took place at Brandywine Creek State Park. Senior Mary Katherine Dorsey won her second straight individual title (20:01.6) and led a 1-2-5-9-10 assault on the championship trophy. It's Padua Academy's ninth in a row. Sophia Holgado, a sophomore, was second in 20:25.6 and a half minute ahead of third place. In the boys Division 1 race, the Salesianum regained the team championship 56 to 72 over defending champion Cape Henlopen. Middletown was third with 98. Ryan Banko, the top runner in the state this fall, repeated his individual title and won by 44 seconds in 16:35.8. Indian River sophomore Brynn Crandell beat St. Mark's senior Tiffany Herrera in the D2 race as those two ran the faster than the D1 champion. Crandell ran 19:37.0 and Hererra was second in 19:46.2. St. Mark's put five runners in the top 20 and won the team title with 61 points. Ursuline, the defending champion, had six in the top 25, but finished second with 90 points. The Tatnall boys, led by senior Nicolas Pizzaro (17:18.1), took care of business in the D2 boys race with four in the top eight and five in the top 12.
